Trung tâm bảo tồn Di tích Quốc gia Côn Đảo là đơn vị sự nghiệp trực thuộc Sở VHTT tỉnh Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu được hợp nhất từ hai đơn vị Ban Quản lý Di tích Côn Đảo và Bảo tàng Côn Đảo, nơi bảo tồn và phát huy một trong những Khu di tích lịch sử cách mạng lớn và lâu đời nhất Việt Nam. Trong suốt 113 năm tồn tại (1862-1975), thực dân Pháp và đế quốc Mỹ đã lần lượt giam cầm đày đọa hàng chục vạn chiến sĩ cách mạng và đồng bào yêu nước, biến Côn Đảo thành “Địa ngục trần gian” hết sức tinh vi tàn bạo.

Với những giá trị lịch sử đó, ngày 29/4/1979 Bộ VHTT đã ra Quyết định số 54/VHTT.QĐ đặc cách công nhận Khu di tích lịch sử cách mạng Côn Đảo là một trong những di tích đặc biệt quan trọng của Quốc gia. Ngày 10/5/2012, Thủ tướng Chính phủ ký Quyết định số 548/QĐ-TTg xếp hạng là khu Di tích Quốc gia đặc biệt với tổng diện tích bảo vệ là 110,69ha.

Ngày nay, khu di tích lịch sử Nhà tù Côn Đảo cùng với gần 2000 tư liệu, hiện vật, hình ảnh trưng bày luôn được bảo tồn và phát huy giá trị để giáo dục truyền thống, phục vụ khách tham quan về thiên nhiên – con người Côn Đảo và lịch sử đấu tranh cách mạng hào hùng, vĩ đại của các chiến sĩ cách mạng và đồng bào yêu nước trong hai cuộc kháng chiến chống thực dân, đế quốc.

Con Dao National Monument Conservation Center is a non-business unit of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Culture and Information merged from two units: Con Dao Management Board and Con Dao Museum. Con Dao national monuments conservation Center is preservedis one of the largest and oldest revolutionary sites in Vietnam. During its 113 years of its operation (1862 – 1975), the French colonialists and American imperialists took captive and tortured hundreds of thousands of revolutionary soldiers and patriotic compatriots. The Con Dao prison used a number of extremely sophisticated and brutal torture and captivity techniques, earning it the nickname “Hell on Earth”..Con Dao was recognized as a place of historical significance on April 29th, 1979. The Ministry of Culture and Information issued Decision No. 54 / VHTT.QD. This decision designated the Con Dao revolutionary area as an important landmark and area of national historical significance. .On the 10th of May, 2012, the Prime Minister of Viet Nam signed Decision No. 548 / QD-TTg, ranking Con Dao as a Special National Monument with a total area of 110.69 hectares.
